I am glad to acquaint You, dear friends, with actual beautiful and rich Polissya land – Rivne Region.

Rivne land named by amber land is rich in picturesque landscapes, unique sights of history, culture and architecture, natural resources attracting researchers, tourists and business people for many centuries. Exactly in Rivne land the first higher school for Eastern Slavic people – Ostrog Academy was founded; the first Ukrainian book – Peresopnytsa Gospel on which the presidents of Ukraine are swear now was published.

Present Rivne Region is a land that due to powerful industrial and agricultural potential, natural resources and main – talented and industrious people has been dynamically developing taking good place in the social-economic and political spheres of Ukraine.

I hope that materials represented in this edition will acquaint with Rivne land closely, expose its charming and help to love it as Rivne residents do.

Ancient Rivne land with picturesque landscape, unique sights of history, culture and architecture attracting researchers, tourists, businessmen for ages is considered pearl of Ukrainian Polissya from everlasting. The land of science and culture, sown by wisdom of philosophers and artists, writers and thinkers, carries through centuries rise of Peresopnytsa Gospel, Ostrog Bible, «Grammars» of Meletiy Smotrytsky, Ostrog edition of «Hornbook» of Ivan Fedorov.

The architecture of this land is strict and majestic. Not for nothing the remains of Korets'ky castle attracted Taras Shevchenko which he painted for ethnographic expedition passed by Rivne Region in its structure. And already those buildings saved – castles, palaces of princes of Ostrozki and Lyubomyrski of XVI-XVIII centuries in Dubno and Ostrog, monastery in Mezhyrichi, complex of sights of the State historical-memorial preserve «Field of Berestetska battle» in the village Plyasheva, Radyvyliv District, Stoning, Round, Tatar towers of XIV century, Bogoyavlenska church of XV century in Ostrog are real pearls of building art.

Today Rivne Region borders upon Zhytomyr, Khmelnytsky, Ternopil and Lviv regions of Ukraine and Gomel and Brest regions of neighboring Byelorussia. The developed infrastructure, comfortable network of transport ways is important factors attracting investors from Germany, Czech Republic, Russia and other countries to the region today.

Say the least of it Rivne Region is proud of the successfully developed investment projects in OJSC «Rivneazot», «Swisspan Limited» Ltd, OJSC «Rokytnivsky Glass Factory», OJSC «Volyn-cement», CJSC «Consumers-Sklo-Zorya» etc. And today the region is open to cooperation. Here investors will always find a reliable partner. In fact the region has the powerful developed industrial base. The goods of Rivne pastry cooks, weavers and glass makers are known in many corners of Ukraine and abroad. Rivne Region is known also by production of electric power, mineral fertilizers, wood-fiber boards, plywood, cement, building materials, power switches, wide range of food products and others.

Economic potential of the region is characterized by the high level of development of chemical and food industry. Biggest share in the industry is taken by processing industry.

The city provides 28,7% of the regional industrial production. Chemical industry is represented by OJSC «Rivneazot» – the single producer of mineral fertilizers and adipic acid in Western Ukraine, entered top 100 best enterprises of Ukraine. The company supplies its products to 11 regions of Ukraine. Part is exported abroad.

The leading enterprises among industries of production of electric and electronic equipment, machines are OJSC «Rivne Works of High-Voltage Equipment», OJSC «Rivneradiozavod» and Scientific-Production Firm «Prodekologiya».

Metallurgical industry and metal-processing is represented by CJSC «Agroresurs».

Among enterprises for production of non-metal mineral wares (building materials) there are OJSC «Plant of Building Materials», CJSC «Rivne House-Building Complex», OJSC «Rivne Plant of Reinforced-Concrete Wares and Constructions», «Rivneekobeton» Ltd, «Verstatnyk» Ltd and others.

Light industry includes «Linen Forever» Ltd, OJSC «Rivne Factory of Non-Woven Materials» and CJSC «Rivnestyle».

Food industry of the city comprises 11 enterprises, including OJSC «Rivne Confectionary Factory», OJSC «Polissyakhlib», «Khlibodar» Ltd, CJSC «Rivneboroshno», «Radema» Ltd etc.

The industrial enterprises of the region constantly update production capacities, introduce progressive technologies and master new types of competitive products.

The territory of Rivne Region is covered by woods (40%). This is one of the highest indexes of foresting in the country. The area of nature protection territories in the region makes almost 170 000 ha that twice exceeds an average index in Ukraine. The region has biggest Rivne natural preserve in Ukraine. One of its sights is beautiful Lake Somyne in Ukrainian Polissya.

The region is rich not only in woods. Its bowels of the earth contain basalt, phosphorite and amber. The region is the single in Ukraine having deposit of this precious stone.

Exactly on this land the specialists found over 600 deposits of building and facing stone, chalk, kaolin, sparry raw material, basalts, cement raw material, peat, sand, brick-tiled raw material, mineral and spring waters and others. In addition, in northlands of the region there are perspective areas where new deposits will be opened soon. On earths of Rivne Region they extract basalts of Ivano-Dolynsky deposit used in production of architectural-building wares. The world practice enables to more rationally use basalts as raw material for making effective heat-insulation materials, fire-place casting used in ship and aircraft construction.

Except for the huge supplies of varied minerals, Rivne land has healthful sources of mineral waters, in particular in ancient Ostrog and old Stepani. Azotic-radon sources in Korytsya do not yield the Caucasian by medical properties.

Rivne Region has the developed scientific and technical potential. Important role is paid to research institutes, project and project-design organizations, scientific and design subsections in the region. History of the land is closely connected with education in Ukraine. The author of the first textbook of grammar and logic in Eastern Europe Meletiy Smotrytsky, first printer Ivan Fedorov and other educators of the Ukrainian culture and written language lived and created there. And today Rivne Region is rich in educational traditions. The regional network of higher educational establishments includes National University «Ostrog Academy» – the unique establishment with rich history. Academy became the legal successor of the first higher educational establishment of Eastern Slavic – Ostrog Slavic-Greek-Latin Academy founded in 1576 connecting the renaissance of Ukrainian people. The chronicle of revival of Academy begins from 1994 and it got the status of national university in 2003.

As well as all Ukrainians, residents of Rivne Region save history and cultural traditions of the land. Dubno, Ostrog, Korets, Goshcha, historical-cultural preserve «Field of Berestetska battle» is not full list of historical places where history of region and Ukraine created.

The land has interesting tourist routes. There are two state historical-cultural preserves in Dubno and Ostrog with sights of history and architecture of XIV – XIX centuries. The State historical-cultural preserve «Field of Berestetska Battle» functions in the village Plyasheva, Radyvyliv District. The Saint-Trinity Monastery Complex in Korets is a sight of history and architecture with grave of Anna Andro glorified by Pushkin as well as complex of the Saint Nikolai Monastery in Gorodok, Rivne District, complex of Mezhyritsky Saint-Trinity Monastery near Ostrog, Dermansky Monastery in Zdolbuniv District. There are unique natural landscapes in Bereznivsky District so-called «Slutch Switzerland», natural preserve «Cherry Mountain». Among sanatoriums with mineral waters the most known is «Chervona kalyna» in the village Zhobryn, Rivne District and «Goryn» in the village Stepan, Sarny District. The miraculous source of Saint Anna with healthful water in the village Onyshchkivtsi, Dubno District is the place of pilgrimage of Christians from the different corners of Ukraine and abroad.

Trip by Rivne Region through wonderful Polissya lakes and fast rivers, mysterious pine forests, ancient walls of Prince days help to turn over the glorious pages of history full of deep past and living contemporaneity.

Rivne Region is a large cultural and educational center, region with the developed infrastructure of business support, favourable to business and investments, is always open to cooperation and partnership. Coming here, you will feel the spirit of history and folk wisdom.
