This almanac aimed to popularize the products of national commodity producers will promote setting of international and inter-regional business mutual relations also.

Edition «Business Image of Ukraine. Achievements. Experience. Recognition» will become important event in life of business public of the young Ukrainian state.

REVIEW

 

Ternopil Region is the developed agricultural and industrial region of Ukraine. The prospect for its development is tourist industry. Huge natural and labour resources, concentration of processing industry (sugar, alcoholic, fruit-and-vegetable), geographical location on crossing of important transport ways from Eastern Europe to Central and Western Europe select a region as territory with favourable opportunities for entrepreneurial activity.

 

The land resources are most and major riches of the region. Out of general area of the land fund (1 382 400 ha), 76% are lends used for agriculture. Arable lands makes 81% in the structure of agricultural lands (almost 850 000 ha). This is one of the highest indexes in Ukraine. The black lands and ashen-grey soils belonging to the group of the fattest lands prevail in the ground cover.

 

The agrarian sector takes leading place in the regional national economy complex. Agriculture that ensures 30% of gross regional product provides human demands in basic food and demands of processing industry in raw material, creating a basis of export potential of the region. The plant-growing prevails among industries of agriculture and makes 63% of gross product. The stock-raising makes 37%.

The industrial production volume in Ternopil Region is 0,6% of national volume. The leading place among branches of the industry is taken by food. It comprises sugar, meat, milk, alcoholic, pastry, tobacco, milling and other branches. By production volumes it is sugar industry. Eight sugar-houses making almost 10% of sugar in general volume of Ukraine operate in the region. Important place is taken also by alcoholic (27% of alcohol in Ukraine) and milk sectors (5,6% of milk).

 

The leading branches of industrial complex are machine-building, light, glass and china, chemical, woodworking and furniture industries. Machine-building includes electrical industry, industry of communication means, agricultural machine-building and many other sectors. All working enterprises use foreign metal, manufacturing labour intensive goods as electrical and agricultural equipment. The region is proud of powerful companies of the industry as OJSC «Vatra» and JV «Vatra-Schreder» – producers of equipment of lightning technology of the production and cultural purpose, OJSC «Ternopil Combine Plant» manufacturing agricultural machines, OJSC «Orion» specialized on facilities of radio contact. New companies include «Luizo» Ltd manufacturing hard-alloy instruments.

 

Light industry of Ternopil Region is based on local (leather) and foreign raw material (cotton, wool, textile and others). This regional industry is represented by 24 companies including OJSC «Texterno», OJSC «Galia», OJSC «Vinitex», JV «Billerbek-Ukraine», branch of «La Kastellana» Ltd, JV «Antares» and «Terkuriy-2» Ltd. OJSC «Texterno» is one of the biggest producers of cotton fabrics in Ukraine (30% of general production in the sector).

 

Glass and china industry is well-developed in the region. It is represented by OJSC «Berezhany glass-house», «Dekor Firm» Ltd, «Ternopilfarfor» Ltd. Furniture and woodworking industry includes PE «Furniture Factory «Nova», CJSC «Ternopil Furniture Company», JV Firm «MAK», «Budservis» Ltd and «Liskom» Ltd. CJSC «Ternopil FurnitureCcompany» is a factory with over 50-years experience of work on the market of furniture, manufacturing wood wares; PE «Furniture Factory «Nova» makes over 75 different types of furniture: living rooms, bedrooms, antechambers, children sets, kitchen sets, wide range of office furniture.

 

The transport network is well developed by national standards in the region. Main kinds of transport are motor-car and rail. By volume of freight and passenger transportations the leader is motor transport carrying more than half of all transportations.

 

The regional fund of business support functions in the region and the Center of management of investments was created on its base. One of the directions of its activity is assistance to improvement of investment climate in Ternopil Region, including creation of renewal information database of investment projects of subjects of management activity and annual publishing of the Catalogue of investment proposals of regional companies, establishments and organizations.

 

The share of enterprise structures in trade and public catering is almost 27,7%, industry – 19,4%, building – 7,6% and agriculture – 13,6%.

 

The regional culture is represented by network of libraries, clubs, houses of culture, museums and theatres. 1938 establishments of culture and art function in the region, including 912 establishments of culture of club type, 940 libraries, 53 schools of aesthetic education, 27 museums (including branches), two theatres, regional philharmonic society, two higher educational establishments of I-III degree of accreditation, Ternopil regional methodical center of folk art and regional municipal educational-methodical center.

 

Today the region has ramified network of education system. It includes educational establishments of preschool, general secondary, vocational and high school. 898 general schools where 135 400 pupils study function in the region. There are 7 special boarding-schools here. The network of establishments of new type consists of 15 gymnasiums, 9 lyceums and 2 collegiums. The preschool education has 516 preschool establishments for satisfaction of human demands.

 

Ternopil Region provides export and import deliveries to 87 countries of the world. Main commercial partners are follows as Russian Federation, Germany, Poland, Moldova, Austria, Italy, China, Netherlands, France, Spain, Hungary and Czech Republic. Biggest foreign markets of production export from Ternopil Region are Russian Federation, Germany, Poland, Moldova and Austria.

 

The export structure includes products of food industry, products of stock-raising, beef meat, sausages, starch, alcohol ethyl, vodka, juices, beer, mineral water, macaroni and bakery, flour, fruit-and-vegetable can foods, pastry, food concentrates, mayonnaise, butter, different types of hard cheeses. Non food group of commodities includes mixed reinforced-concrete constructions, brick, furniture, wood wares, parquet, pharmaceutical facilities, detergents, electric equipment, satellite aerials, wireless stations, soft goods, leather, linoleum, electric equipment and others.

 

Among suppliers of foreign products in the region there are Germany, Poland, Italy, China, Netherlands, France and Czech Republic. Main commodities imported are machines and electric equipment, pharmaceutical goods, transport vehicles, plastics and it wares, products of vegetable origin, ferrous metals.

 

Natural-recreational potential of the region enables to develop practically all directions of tourist-recreational sphere. Ternopil Region is one of the biggest open-air world museums. One third of all castles and fortresses of Ukraine is kept here; numerous churches and monasteries, family estates of the Ukrainian and Polish gentry attracts by grandeur and remoteness.

 

There are sacred objects in Ternopil Region known all over the world as Pochayivsky Saint Assumption Monastery and Zarvanytsky Mariysky Spiritual Center. Religious tourism is one million pilgrims annually from all over the world.

 

One of the symbols of heroic and glorious history of the land is Zabarska fortress annually visited by almost 100 000 tourists from Ukraine and abroad. There are over 100 caves in the region. The Dniester canyon is the biggest not only in Ukraine but also in Europe. The special value is made by preserve Medobory – the unique geological-botanical complex in the world that has not analogues in Ukraine.
