Ladies and Gentlemen!

I am sincerely greeting You with appearance of Representation Almanac «Business Image of Ukraine. Achievements. Experience. Recognition» on which pages the unique Bukovina land is represented. I hope that this colourful edition will promote cognition and mutual enriching of all regions of Ukraine and enable to set new business contacts with national and foreign partners.

Our land is unique one. We are proud of centuries-old traditions of interethnic consent and tolerance, original customs carefully increased by present generations of Bukovina residents. The "land of Cheremosha and Pruta" is legally considered an artistic capital of the state, and Chernivtsi – «Small Paris». Good administrators capable to work and carefully keep ancestor traditions live in Bukovina. Exactly the regional community unrecognizably changes face of the most ancient earth on the best and local power helps Bukovina residents to realize their potential and hopes and aspirations as possible more effective.

Today the regional economy is directed on introducing innovation-investment models of development, trans-boundary cooperation and development of transit networks, optimum mastering of natural resources and creation of modern tourist infrastructure.

This edition will promote popularization of firm brand of Bukovina also and enable to set new partner relations with business people of Ukraine and foreign countries as well as to get experience.

Dear colleagues, we invite You to the mutually beneficial cooperation and useful communication. We will be glad to see representatives of business communities of neighbouring and foreign countries on our beneficial earth during World Forum of Bukovina Residents dated to 600-years of the first writing mention about Chernivtsi. Favourable geographical location, rich recreational resources, economic potential of Chernivtsi Region is attractive for development of inter-regional and international cooperation.

Economic activity of the region during last years shows growth rates of development of the industry and incomes in the local budget.

The well-developed industrial complex has been formed in the region. It is the enterprises of food and light industry, machine-building, metallurgy, metal and wood working. The products with trade marks of Bukovina are well-known not only in Ukraine but also abroad.

The most powerful machine-building enterprise of the region is Chernivtsi Machine-Building Works ltd that manufactures unique equipment for processing, transporting, storage and synthesis of oil, gas and condensate, and also equipment for the objects of energy and chemistry.

Constantly extending production range and mastering new types of products ARGO Ltd grows industrial volumes annually.

The specialists of OJSC «Quartz» developed new energy-saving devices and units of alternative electric and thermal power interested for representatives of business circles of China.

The light industry has been developing successfully in the region. This branch is represented by sewing, textile, knitting, leather and shoe subsections. 15 enterprises of light industry employ 13,5% of workers of regional industry.

OJSC «Trembita» is one of the biggest and successful enterprises of the branch. It is specialized in sewing of men's and women's wear. Trade mark «Trembita» is well-known abroad. Suits, trousers, jackets and overcoats are in demand in Italy, Germany and USA.

OJSC «Rozma» produces commodities of public consumption, in particular children's line.

Woodworking and furniture industry is represented by dozen modern enterprises manufacturing varied products as saw-timber, parquet, door and window blocks, planed and peeled veneer, plywood glued, shaving boards, domestic and office furniture, easels, public consumption, cultural and welfare commodities, arts and crafts. The most powerful are Texto Ltd, Storozhynets State Forestry, Beregomets Works of Shaving Boards Ltd and Putyla State Forestry.

The forest-steppe zone has favourable conditions for growing cereals, technical crops, potato and vegetables, production of stock-raising goods. In the foot-hill zone the milk-meat breeding and sheep breeding prevails in the agriculture. In the mountain area it is specialized on meat and milk stock-raising and sheep breeding, production of green crops.

The enterprises of small business are actively created in the region: plants for producing biodiesel fuel in Sokyryany and Kitsmansky districts, for leather, fur and wool processing in Putylsky district.

Over 70 enterprises of food processing industry operate in the region. Production and sale of meat-sausage products is provided by Company «Kolos» and Subsidiary «Meat of Bukovina», Novoselytsya Poultry Farm.

Novoselytsya Cheese Plant that enters Subsidiary «Ecocheese» has been reconstructed.

Luzhansk Experimental Spirit Plant is one the oldest enterprises of Bukovina. From 2000 the plant has been operating within Government Program «Ethanol» ratified by decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

Chernivtsi Oil-Fat Factory fully works. Except for sunflower seed, they mastered processing of rape and soy and production of oil from it.

The bus rout network capable to satisfy growing demands of population in passenger transportation has been formed in the region.

Operating length of railway tracks of the common use makes 413 km.

30 rail stations opened for freight operations function in Chernivtsi Region. It operation is ensured by railways – Lviv and South-Western.

Municipal Company «International Airport «Chernivtsi» provides motion, landing and technical service of aircrafts.

The fibre-optic lines of international communications pass to Moldova and Romania through Chernivtsi Region.

During last years the region supports tendency to the increase of investments.

The passport system of settlements has been designed and database of investment proposals of districts and land plots attractive for development of investment projects has been formed. The map of regional investment attractiveness «Investment Bukovina» has been done. The multimedia presentation of the region «Foreign investments in Bukovina» has been prepared. The general volume of direct foreign investments in 2006 made almost USD 40 mln.

On September, 2006 it was commissioned the modern powerful technological Juice Extraction Plant «Bukofrutt» in Kitsman District.

It was reconstructed and commissioned KelmentsiCreamery, started building of modern hotel-entertaining complex in the village M. Kuchuriv of Zastavna District (Italian investors foresee to invest Euro 50 mln. in its building) and Company «Renaissance» started to build complex in the village Dolishny Shepit of Vyzhnytsya District – it is foreseen to invest Euro 8,7 mln.

In 2006 the building of sport-health complex «Tsetsyne» in Chernivtsi is being lasting as well as international tourist-entertaining complex «Mountain pass of Nimchych» in the village Pidzakharychi of Putyla District, tourist complexes «Mygove» in the village Mygove, «Lekeche» in the village Lopushna, «Stizhok» in the settlement Beregomet of Vyzhnytsya District, ski park «Gorbove» in the village Gorbove of Gertsa District, rest bases «Aqua Plus» in the village Glybochok of Storozhynets District and «Spruce house» in the village Stebni of Putyla District, tourist complexes «Green oak forest» in the village Valya Kuzmyn, «Sun valley» in the village Boyany of Novoselytsya District, «Lord estate» in the village Budynets of Storozhynets District, «Dnestr» in the village Neporotove of Sokyryany District, rest-homes «SV-tour» in the village Dolishny Shepit of Vyzhnytsya District and «Chaika» in the village Neporotove of Sokyrayny District, yacht-club «Dnestr» in the village Dnistrivka of Kelmentsi District.

Building industry has been successfully developing. The subjects of management activity of the region have commercial relations with partners from 84 countries of the world. 265 companies provide export and 299 – import.

Almost 100 tourist enterprises operate in Bukovina now.

The efforts of regional state administration are directed on expansion of external economic and cultural relations. Official and working meetings of regional governor with colleagues within partnership «Four regions for Europe» enabled to considerably extend cooperation with German District of Schwaben, French Department of La Mayenne and Romanian District of Suceava.

For satisfaction of cultural demands of regional population there are 386 club establishments, 412 universal libraries, 229 movie options, 18 operating movie theatres, one park of rest, four museums, 46 schools of aesthetic education and two theatres in Chernivtsi Region. On the whole there are 2153 objects under state guard, including 783 sights of architecture and town-planning (212 of national value), 583 sights of history, 742 sights of archaeology, 43 sights of monumental art and landscape-gardening.

A property in the cultural-spiritual revival is a pride of multinational land. Almost 100 nationalities (Ukrainians, Romanians, Moldavians, Byelorussians, Polands, Russians and others) live in the region.

837 educational establishments of any types and forms of property operate in Chernivtsi Region, where 238 000 children of preschool and school age, students study.

The establishments of new type as educational complexes and schools-gardens, center of children's development and walking are created here.

452 general schools function in the region as well as center of youth education, 33 educational complexes, nine special schools and auxiliary boarding schools.

The system of education includes also 26 out-of-school educational establishments and 16 children's-youth sport schools.

35 higher educational establishments function in the region. The educational process is provided by 4407 lecturers, including 1015 candidates of science and 212 doctors of science.

The state of education in high school prove positive changes: amount of students grows and material-technical base of educational establishments gets better.
