The feature of Dnipropetrovs'k Region is one of the best in Europe black earths in combination with the supplies of minerals which by composition presents practically whole Mendeleev table.
In the bowels of the earth there are 302 deposits and almost 950 occurrences. 39 minerals are extracted. Here there are four powerful basins of minerals important not only for Ukraine but also for Europe: Kryvorizky – iron ore; Western Donetsk – coal; Nikopolsky – manganese; Dnipropetrovs'ky – brown coal.
Today 100% of all supplies of manganese ore are mined in the region.
Kryvorizky basin with the found supplies of iron ore which make almost 66% of national supplies takes the first place in Ukraine (about 80% of national) by extraction volume.
Two iron and steel works operate on the base of Nikopolsky deposit of manganese.
Future of the region is in development of non-ferrous and gold industries. Potential resources of gold, molybdenum, tungsten within Surska, Chortomlytska and Verkhivetska structures, and also Kryvbas prove convincingly that after full completion of geological survey works the region will have several huge deposits of gold (Sergiyivske etc.) and middle deposits of molybdenum and tungsten. By resource potential of gold the region takes first place in Ukraine.
The region owns single Ukrainian deposit of talc-magnesite. Its commission enables to provide the requirements of Ukraine in heat-resistant raw material by 60-70% and to considerably decrease import from other countries. Prosyanivsky deposit of primary kaolins by supplies and quality of raw material is considered a best in the world.
15 deposits of mineral waters are developed in the region that does possible to fully provide the requirements of population in medical and table mineral waters.
In addition, the large volumes of spring water are concentrated in the region; and it is not only the river of Dnieper, and yet 270 rivers and 300 lakes.
Dnipropetrovs'k Region is the land of talented and hard-working people with great cultural and intellectual potential keeping and increasing cultural and historical values.
The bright page in regional history was time of the Cossacks. From eight Zaporizhzhya Sich five were on the territory of today's Dnipropetrovs'k Region.
Dnipropetrovs'k History Museum named after D. I. Yavornytsky that enters top 100 best museums of the world has unique collection of archaeological sights, documents, standards of art, articles of remoteness – on the whole over 23 000 exhibits; many of them is over 3 000 years.
Another visiting-card of not only Dnipropetrovs'k Region but also Ukraine is a center of folk creation «Petrykivka». Works of Petrykivka masters has deserved place in collections of the world museums and private collections of the real admirers of this original art.
Now representatives of 80 nationalities: Ukrainians (79,3%), Russians (17,6%), Byelorussians (0,8%), Jewries (0,4%), Armenians (0,3%) live in the region.
Industrial potential of the region is one of the most powerful in Ukraine. Dnipropetrovs'k Region covers 16-17% of national production volume. Over 700 industrial enterprises of all basic industries work here.
For the last ten years about UAH 15 bln. of investments are directed for creation new, modernization and expansion of operating industrial productions that enabled to master output of almost 2400 new products.
150 enterprises introduced quality management system by international standards.
Growing volumes of deliveries to the foreign markets reached USD 5,9 bln. prove competitiveness of regional industrial production.
So, in particular, the metallurgical complex makes 35% of general volume in Ukraine (over one third of cast-iron, steel, rolled stock, almost 3/4 pipes) and provides budgetary incomes of the region by 37%.
The export of this complex makes 11% of national and provides 58% of regional currency incomes.
The fuel and energy complex is practically represented by all industries – coal mining, oil and gas, power engineering.
The mines of Western Donbas produce 12 mln. tons of coal.
Almost 20 mln. tons of oil and 7 mln. tons of gas condensate are produced in the region.
The powerful thermal power-stations produce to 12 mln. kW/ year of electric power.
The region is widely known in Ukraine and in the whole world as a center of rocket-space industry. Here there is one of the world biggest rocket-space centers – «South machine-building plant» and Design Bureau «South». These enterprises take part in common international project «Marine start». Only last year there are seven successful launches of «Zenith SL» made in the plant.
Over 20 000 enterprises of small and medium business operate in the region where 13% of all workers are employed. For years of independence the regional commercial network increased twice. Today it is 14 000 trading enterprises, almost 4 500 restaurants and cafes. For the last 10 years the commodity turnover of retail business grew by 10 times.
The regional agrarian complex is 1 000 agricultural firms and 3 400 farms.
Dnipropetrovs'k Region takes leading place in foreign trade of Ukraine with the countries of the European Union.
The region provides 9,6% of external trade turnover between Ukraine and EU, including 12,7% of export of the Ukrainian commodities to the EU and 6,2% import of commodities from the EU to Ukraine. The regional companies actively co-operate with investors from 25 countries.
The analysis of dynamics of export-import operations of Dnipropetrovs'k Region with the EU proves that the volumes of export deliveries grew to Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Greece, Denmark, Estonia, Spain, Italy, Lithuania, Malta, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, Luxemburg, France and Slovenia.
On the basis of analysis of export structure with basic partners one can say that general growth of volumes of export to the EU was ensured due to the increase of volumes of export of products of metallurgy (in the first turn to Germany, Italy and Poland).
The measures on development of inter-regional cooperation with the European countries promote deepening of external economic cooperation. Inter-regional agreements within it measures on development of cooperation in the spheres of economy, science, culture, social and humanitarian spheres are realised were signed between Dnipropetrovs'k Region and regions of Poland (Low Silesia province), Lithuania (Vilnius district), France (Roni department), Germany (federal lands of Brandenburg, Saar, North Rhine-Westphalia).
With the purpose of expansion of cooperation with the EU, getting of positive international image and increase of investment attractiveness of the region, the representation measures of the region are actively conducted in the EU by assistance and participation of regional state administration for the last time: Poland (Wroclaw) and Germany (Hannover).
At the end of the last year the region was successfully represented in composition of the national exposition of Ukraine in the International Exhibition-Fair «Hannover Messe-2007» in Germany.
